THE GREAT CIRCUMNAVIGATION of LARNE LOUGH for Meningitis
Post date: May 20, 2013 8:25:46 AM
First of all let me introduce myself: The name is Tom Jobling, I am – although many years ago – a past Fireball sailor and of course remain a fan (I’m going back to the Nick Stratton/Adrian Bell era...). These days however I own and race a quarter tonner up in the North on Larne Lough.
I have attached (among other items) a press release – you may have read it on either the Afloat or Yachts and Yachting sites. It explains I think in some detail our event ‘The Meningitis Chase Race’ and especially its sub title ‘The Great Circumnavigation of Larne Lough.’
I’m in a way trying to create a live dinghy show, and in setting a target of 50 dinghies I am appealing to the leading Irish class associations for support. I know East Antrim Boat Club would really love to see the Fireball back sailing on Larne Lough again!
With the new road network travel time to Larne is much reduced. So again for this one day in September (7th) would there be any chance that you could encourage a few of the fleet to head north?
As mentioned in the press release, this will be no orndinary pursuit race; from a windward start we intend to litter it with hurdles; the course will even sail past the ‘Game of Thrones’ set. And for the entire day a fun filled programme will be rolled out ashore too: Live music, raffles and every competitor will be entered [free] into the grand draw. We’ll have back on the by six... And hopefully we’ll have realised our second objective; raising £1,000 for the Meningitis Trust.
I look forward to perhaps hearing from you.
